Misadventures of a Civil War submarine: iron, guns and pearls

Year: 2012
Language: English
Author: Delgado, James P.
Format: PDF
Quality: eBook
Pages count: 314
Description: The genesis of this book was the chance discovery in 2001 of Julius Kroehl’s incredible, and then forgotten, craft, Sub Marine Explorer, on the edge of the beach at Isla San Telmo in Panama’s Archipiélago de las Perlas. Little did I realize then, on vacation and standing on a beach unequipped and unprepared for documenting what turned out to be one of the world’s earliest successful deep diving submarines, that I would return, again and again, to document this submarine and research its history. Ten years after that first morning on the narrow beach of San Telmo, the submarine has been reconstructed on paper, and the story of Julius Kroehl, at least all that we have been able to find thus far, is told, and this book is complete.
